Introduction

My name is Clayton Meyer and I am a junior majoring in Sport Enterprise. I am hoping to someday have the opportunity to be either an athletic director or a recreational sport director. The male athlete i would pay to see would be Adrian Peterson. I think that he was a ridiculous athlete at Oklahoma and many pro teams obviously did not think that he would be able to recover from his shoulder injury, but he obviously was very successful in his recovery. The female athlete i would pay to see would be Candace Parker. She was a big story obviously in college and ESPN really enjoyed talking about her even though women's sports on ESPN do not get talked about very often because they are not as popular as the men's sports to most people. I think she is a great athlete and possibly the most dominant woman athlete in her sport of all time.

Personally, I enjoy football, basketball, and baseball. I am a huge Ohio State fan and love watching all college teams and athletes. My favorite time of the year is the fall because football season is coming around and is there the whole time. I participated in all these sports in high school, but i am also interested in participating in sports such as tennis and swimming whenever i actually have the time to do so.

My expectations for this class are basically to hear everyone's opinions about the sport and gender. I think it has been very interesting to hear the lifestyles that everyone else has grown up with and what they think is right and wrong. There are some very serious topics out there dealing with gender and sports and everyone is going to have a different opinion and I have been really interested so far in hearing everything that has gone on to give people their opinions.

  1. Hi Clayton,

This is a good start to your Blog. You made a pretty strong statement about Candace Parker being "possibly the most dominant woman athlete in her sport of all time." I suppose the fact that she can dunk carries a distinction. I have not followed Women's basketball enough to evaluate how she would do against Cheryl Miller or Lisa Leslie, who were both slightly ahead of her time. I also think Nancy Liebermann and Ann Meyers would have to be included in that conversation. As for Adrian Peterson, I wonder how his season will be with Brett Favre as the Vikings QB. I was speaking with someone yesterday who believes the Vikings will win the Super Bowl with the addition of Favre. Of course, if that happens, I hope they don't gell in week 1 against the Browns:-)

I am glad you have found the discussions in class to be interesting. And I hope that future topics will be stimulating as well. I look forward to reading your future entries.

  2. This may have been something that i heard in class about Brett Favre, but I am pretty sure that i agreed with whoever said it, when they said that Favre is the Craig Krenzel of the 2002 National Championship team for Ohio State. He manages the game now that he has Adrian Peterson and does not have to do everything on his own

  3. I wonder if you (and others) still think that Favre is "manageing" the game for the Vikings. It seems that he has had some pretty impressive games in the past few weeks.
